Artificial insemination is a valuable tool that facilitates the efficient, selective breeding of livebearing fishes. Although it is a simple procedure, it is technically complex and should not be attempted by the inexperienced hobbyist. The health and proper treatment of the fish is of primary importance and care should always be taken to minimize the risks.
